Check out Somewhat.org for the piece that we ran today for a little while called My e-mail knows me so well by Julie Shapiro. Somewhat accepted it before we did. And the author didn't tell us to let us know that it had been accepted somewhere else. That's cool, though. Well, kinda. Simultaneous submissions are fine and dandy. Just send us a note to let us know if the piece has been picked up somewhere else if we haven't responded to you yet. Thanks! (These issues will be addressed in an updated version of our submissions guidelines very soon. Maybe even tomorrow.)
